“Lacryma Vitis” is the event that occurs when the vine is cut or injured in some way.
In response to the trauma, the vine releases a sort of sap, composed mainly of water, sugars, and mineral salts.
This sap, similar to tears, is also called “the vine’s weeping”. This event has a technical explanation: when the vine is injured, defense mechanisms are activated that lead to an increase in pressure inside the plant tissues, favoring the release of sap.
Although it may seem like a negative event for the vine, weeping can actually help the plant to remove toxic substances or to heal the wound. Let this event remind us of the importance of respecting and protecting nature, in order to increasingly appreciate its beauty and precious sap.
