According to what was reported by the Italian Wine Union (UIV), the Ministry of Economy has withdrawn the provisions regarding dealcoholized wines, previously included in the proposed legislative decree on excise duties. Now that the deadlock is over, UIV underlines the urgency for the Ministry of Agriculture to quickly approve the decree, respecting the main elements already agreed with the sector. Among these, the need to carry out the dealcoholization process in dedicated spaces, the ban on applying this practice to Dop/Igp wines, and the classification of the residual hydroalcoholic solution (mains water between 95% and 99.9%) as waste, therefore exempting it from excise duties. UIV hopes that Masaf will be able to convene the organizations in the coming weeks to present the new version of the decree.

Furthermore, UIV highlights that a 2021 Community Regulation provides that this type of product must be called “de-alcoholized wine” or “partially de-alcoholized wine”. Italian companies ask to be able to work under the same conditions as their European competitors, using the term “wine” for dealcoholised products.

We at ACRAM, always attentive to technological innovations and market needs, have already been operational for some time with our partial and total dealcoholization system, called iAM ZERO.
